A GCCF-registered breeder follows a strict code of ethics covering the health, welfare and socialisation of their cats and kittens. Choosing a registered breeder gives you confidence that your kitten has been raised to the highest standards by someone who genuinely cares about the breed.
What Makes a Good Breeder
- They are registered with the GCCF (Governing Council of the Cat Fancy) and breed under a recognised prefix.
- Health testing is carried out before breeding. For Siamese and related breeds, this typically includes PRA testing and annual veterinary health checks.
- Kittens are raised in a home environment, well-socialised and accustomed to everyday household sounds and activity.
- A responsible breeder will never let kittens leave before 13 weeks of age and will provide full vaccination, microchipping and GCCF registration.
- They offer ongoing support and advice after you take your kitten home, and will always take a kitten back if circumstances change.
About Siamese, Oriental and Balinese Breeders
Siamese cat breeders in the UK are part of a long-established community with breed clubs dedicated to preserving the health and type of this iconic breed. Many breeders show their cats at GCCF championship shows and breed to the published standard of points.
Oriental Shorthair breeders often work alongside Siamese breeders, as the two breeds share the same body type and differ primarily in colour genetics. Some catteries breed both Siamese and Orientals.
Balinese breeders are fewer in number in the UK but are a dedicated group working to promote this beautiful semi-longhaired variety. Balinese breeding often involves Siamese lines, and many breeders are active in both breeds.
