Finding a Stud Cat for Your Queen

Choosing the right stud cat is essential for producing healthy, well-typed kittens. Whether you breed Siamese, Oriental Shorthair or Balinese cats, selecting a compatible stud with proven health credentials and strong bloodlines will give your litter the best foundation.

Stud Visit Essentials

  • Your queen must be up to date with vaccinations and have a current negative FeLV and FIV test result before any stud visit.
  • Discuss terms with the stud owner well in advance, including stud fee, number of matings, and what happens if the mating is unsuccessful.
  • Check the stud’s pedigree and health history carefully. A responsible stud owner will be happy to share this information.
  • Ensure the stud is GCCF-registered and that the prefix holder is in good standing.
  • Most queens stay with the stud owner for several days. Ask about accommodation arrangements and how the cats are introduced.

About Our Breeds at Stud

Siamese stud cats carry the pointed gene and are bred in all recognised colour points including seal, blue, chocolate, lilac and the newer colours. Selecting the right colour pairing is important for achieving your desired kitten colours.

Oriental Shorthair studs offer an extraordinary variety of colour and pattern possibilities. With over 300 recognised combinations, careful colour genetics planning is especially rewarding in this breed.

Balinese studs carry the longhair gene alongside the pointed pattern. Pairings need to account for coat length genetics to ensure kittens meet breed standard expectations.
