Buying a Siamese, Oriental or Balinese Kitten

Choosing the right kitten is one of the most important decisions you will make as a cat owner. Siamese, Oriental Shorthair and Balinese kittens are intelligent, sociable and form strong bonds with their families. Taking time to find a responsible, GCCF-registered breeder ensures your kitten has the best possible start in life.

What to Look for When Visiting a Breeder

  • Kittens should be a minimum of 13 weeks old before leaving their mother, fully vaccinated and microchipped.
  • Ask to see both parents (or photos of the sire if he lives elsewhere) and request copies of health test results.
  • A good breeder will ask you questions too — they want to ensure their kittens go to caring, suitable homes.
  • Kittens should appear bright-eyed, clean and confident. Look for a clean environment with well-socialised cats.
  • You should receive a pedigree certificate, GCCF registration or transfer document, vaccination record and a diet sheet.

About Siamese, Oriental and Balinese Kittens

Siamese kittens are born almost white and develop their distinctive colour points over the first few weeks. They are one of the most vocal and affectionate breeds, thriving on human company and often described as dog-like in their loyalty.

Oriental Shorthair kittens share the same elegant body shape as the Siamese but come in a stunning range of over 300 colour and pattern combinations. They are equally playful and people-oriented.

Balinese kittens are the semi-longhaired cousins of the Siamese, with the same striking blue eyes and pointed colouring but a silky, flowing coat. They combine Siamese intelligence with a slightly softer temperament.
